Skijoring

Skijoring is a combination of mushing and x-country skiing. The skier wears a special skijoring belt around their hips, an elasticized rope is then attached from the belt to the dog's sledding harness and the fun begins. Check out SkiDogs.ca or Ottawa Outdoors - Beginner's Guide to Skijoring

 

 

There are a few local schools giving classes

Best Friends Dog School in Orleans (Trim road, near Hwy #17) you'll find the skijoring page under classes, specialty, skijoring. The next session begins January 2008.

Awareness Pet Training holds skijoring lessons in Kemptville.

Contact the schools to confirm, but most have a try before you buy policy for harnesses, belts, etc. You will need to bring your own x-country skiing equipment.
